Derived from depictions featured in fashion publications in the Philippines circa 1950, the present artwork constitutes a compilation of facial portraits of laureates hailing from nationwide beauty contests within the country. Significantly, juxtaposed beneath the aforementioned assemblage is an advertisement, originating from the identical temporal context, of Coca-Cola, a quintessential symbol of American cultural influence and capitalist consumerism. Such an amalgamation encapsulates the prevalent phenomenon of Western colonialism and the attendant imposition of ideological paradigms upon the Philippines, mainly through cultural mediums such as fashion and commercial advertising.
