The narrative selected for this painting is a deliberate and thoughtful response to my ongoing fascination with the impact of Western popular culture. The visual foundation for this work has been appropriated from a teen pop film titled “Nagbibinata,” which serves as a vehicle for exploring the complex interplay of American colonization and Western ideology. This artistic endeavour engages with critical questions surrounding cultural appropriation, hegemonic power dynamics, and how popular culture shapes our understanding of the world around us.
